Early childhood is an especially critical time for language learning, giving even more urgency for Chinese immersion educators to access one another and the collective wisdom of practitioners in this exciting, developing field. In partnership with a fantastic group of peer schools (see Planning Committee listing below), we are thrilled to announce that the seventh annual Early Childhood Chinese Immersion Forum (ECCIF) is taking place back at the Chinese American International School after all these years since the pandemic for educators in Chinese immersion preschool and Kindergarten programs to network and learn from one another. The forum includes a keynote presentation, workshops led by the keynote speaker, breakout sessions led by forum participants and networking opportunities.

Keynote Presentation 主题演讲
A Pedagogy of Play 玩的教育学
As early childhood educators, we recognize the importance of play – it helps children learn fundamental concepts, hone essential skills, and develop their abilities to collaborate, solve problems, and navigate uncertainty creatively. Despite this understanding, we find ourselves in a world that perpetuates a false division between learning and play, deeming learning as serious and rigorous, and play as enjoyable but frivolous. How can we champion play as a powerful strategy for learning?
Join us for a keynote presentation by Dr. Yvonne Liu-Constant, a researcher from Project Zero at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Liu-Constant will present research findings from the Pedagogy of Play project conducted across five countries: Denmark, South Africa, the US, Colombia, and Taiwan. She will discuss cultural insights gained in Taiwanese classrooms and the implications for Chinese-speaking learners and teachers around the world. Her presentation goes beyond theoretical insights and offers you practical strategies for playful teaching and learning, empowering you to advocate for playful learning with families and in the community. Elevate your educational approach and be a catalyst for change!
