Here are a selection of quick fifth grade teacher recaps from Lower School Head Kimberly Kaz’s newsletters this year to give a peek into the fifth grade classrooms in action.
From Ms. Wallace and Ms. Long’s Classrooms
Fifth graders explored what makes something poetry by studying the topics, themes, structure, mood/tone, purpose, and literary devices found in poems, songs, and our class read aloud, Love That Dog. Students expanded their toolbox of poetic devices and experimented applying onomatopoeia, rhyme, similes, metaphors, personification, allusion, assonance, consonance, alliteration, and imagery to lift up the level of their own poems.
From Ms. Sheppard’s Science Lab
Fifth grade chemists have been experimenting with mixtures and solutions, chemical and physical changes in matter, and acids and bases. It’s no surprise that they enjoy working with highly reactive acids the most!
From Mr. Rosen’s Art Studio
Fifth grade artists are finished with the final project in their unit on Artist of the Month JooYoung Choi. After making colorful set pieces for a large backdrop installation, our artists made lively and elaborate hand puppets in the joyful style of JooYoung Choi.
