The Journey Begins...
Welcome from the Office of Admission
Thank you for your interest in Chinese American International School (CAIS). We invite you to browse our website and visit our campus to discover the unique, educational opportunity that awaits your child.
We understand an important aspect of the admission process is for you to feel comfortable with our community. You are encouraged to experience daily life at CAIS by touring the campus with parent tour guides and by attending an information session in our Welcome Center.
Additionally, you may attend other CAIS events and talk with members of our Parents’ Association throughout the year. We invite you to partake in school-wide events that will offer you the opportunity to appreciate our community and our highly respected, academic and extra-curricular programs.
On behalf of our faculty, staff, administrators, and parents, we assure you will find the CAIS community exciting, vibrant and culturally diverse. Please call the Office of Admission at 415-865-6084, select 1 to schedule your visit. We look forward to hosting you!

Overview
CAIS is a full-day, PreKindergarten through Grade 8 independent school.
PreKindergarten-Kindergarten
Chinese is not a requirement for entry at this level. PreKindergarten and Kindergarten applicants
shall attend a Saturday screening/evaluation session during the application process and are
evaluated on the basis of auditory and language development, as well as their level of
socialization.
Grades 1-8
Applicants in these grades are evaluated on the basis of their ability to meet academic
requirements at the Lower School grade level. Applicants visit our campus for one day to
experience student life at CAIS, as well as receive an age and grade appropriate assessment
in Chinese and English to determine readiness for the program. Based on space availability in
the Lower School, a student may be accepted if we determine that she or he can transition into
the program.
An Admission Committee, composed of faculty and administrators, makes enrollment recommendations to the Head of School. Detailed information about the admission process is posted on our Admission Checklist Page
