Mandarin Camp: Pre-K and Kindergarten

A Fun-Filled Learning Experience for Children Ages 3–5
Entering Pre-K or Kindergarten

No prior Mandarin knowledge needed.

We pay special attention to the abilities and needs of our youngest campers to give them a sound footing in Mandarin while making sure that they feel comfortable.

Curriculum

PK Mandarin Auxiliary Students

During each four-week session, students acquire Mandarin language skills and Chinese cultural knowledge through fun, immersion-based activities. These include singing, Mandarin story time, Chinese dance, arts and crafts, cooking and morning exercise. Teachers speak in Mandarin and with their bodies, so children understand the tasks at hand. Children come away knowing simple Mandarin phrases, such as saying "hello" every morning or "goodbye" each afternoon.

Field Trips

Every Wednesday, PreK–Kindergarten campers participate in their own field trip or event. These may include short visits to a nearby firehouse, public library branch, the Asian Art Museum and the New Conservatory. They may also receive visits by a special guest or group, such as a lion-dance troupe, artists, police officers and the “Reptile Lady.”
