Optional Programs with Additional Fees
CAIS offers the following optional programs through our Auxiliary Programs Department: Extended Day Care program, After-School Enrichment classes, and Summer Programs. Full details about our auxiliary programs, schedules, and fees are available in the Extended Day Program Handbook. Email Auxiliary Program Director Kevin Lee for a copy and for more information about the programs. The following is a brief description of each program:
Extended Day Care
Extended Day Care allows students to attend school under supervision from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
After-School Enrichment Classes
A schedule of enrichment classes is announced each fall and spring and available at an additional cost.
Summer Programs
Summer programs offer students a way to continue learning over the summer while enjoying various activities including language enrichment, arts and crafts, sports, cultural activities, and field trips. Information on summer programs is available each spring.
Tuition Assistance
Socio-economic diversity is an element of diversification at CAIS that is welcomed into our community. Each year we set aside an amount equal to 11–15% of tuition revenues for tuition assistance/financial aid. For example, in 2006-2007, 25% of the student body received tuition assistance. Awards ranged from $1,500-$12,500 per student. The average grant was $7,400 per student. Awards are for one year and continuation is dependent upon future financial need and strong academic performance.
The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)
CAIS uses SSS to process applications for tuition assistance. Part of the Educational Testing Services, SSS provides a need-based financial aid analysis to schools nationwide and is used by most of the independent schools in San Francisco.
You may complete your application (PFS) online at www.nais.org (preferable), or you may use the written forms available in the CAIS Business and Admission Offices. Due dates for completing the application process are listed on the SSS website.
Necessary Documents for Tuition Assistance Consideration
The following tuition assistance documents are due the first week of February 2009 to the CAIS Business Office at 44 Page Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. Please call 415.861.7666 if you have regarding the process and/or information requested.
You’ll need to provide:
- A copy of your PFS application. Online applicants should print a copy before submitting.
- Federal Tax Form 1040 for 2008 with all supporting schedules and W-2s.

Adherence to the above schedule is required to allow time for SSS processing and ensure adequate time for the Tuition Assistance Committee to review each family's application individually and as a group.
