From the Head of School
Welcome to the Chinese American International School. Whether you are a parent, educator, or administrator considering joining our community, an alumnus planning to visit the campus, or a parent participating in our on-line community, I am delighted to share our school with you.
Founded in 1981 by visionary leaders and educators, CAIS is the first school in the United States dedicated to Chinese language and culture immersion education. From an enrollment of four students in our inaugural year a quarter century ago, CAIS now enrolls over 400 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grades. At CAIS, you will find a commitment to strong academics taught in an atmosphere of mutual respect, cooperation and honesty, principles upon which the school was founded. The school continues to innovate as we grow, always striving to evolve while honoring our core philosophies.
Our school is a family, and at its heart is the commitment of CAIS parents whose cultural diversity enriches our campus life. Our dedicated faculty prepares students for success in high school and college, and equips them with life-long language and citizenship skills that enable them to meet the challenges and opportunities of a global future. Whether choosing to live here in the States or abroad, CAIS graduates are making a difference in their communities.
Please visit the site of the CAIS Institute, a national Mandarin language resource center for educators, students, and community organizations. Each spring the CAIS Institute hosts the Chinese Education Conference, a national symposium committed to preparing educators for a global future. Through this organization, we are able to connect English and Mandarin speakers around the world and promote cross-cultural exchange among leaders in education, government, and business.
I hope this visit to our website is just the beginning of your exploration of CAIS. I look forward to welcoming you personally to our campus and sharing with you the wonder and vitality of our Chinese language and culture immersion program.
Sincerely,
Andrew W. Corcoran
Head of School and Executive Director of CAIS Institute
